Jeera Rice

There are times when you have people visiting around dinner or lunch time. And you get confused what to serve them with, when you might have prepared/decided to keep a simple dinner for your family and also have very less time to be creating something very jazzy. So in case, plain rice was on your family menu and you are not happy to be serving the same for you guests, just a simple seasoning could lift that simple rice to be a very simple yet a crowd pleasing one.

For me, my toddler has certain picky days when he would refuse the common or usual family menu items and to make it interesting for him, I convert a small portion of cooked rice into flavored rice for him to enjoy.

It serves good with Dal tadka or Rajma. That's our family favorite combo. You could serve it with any favorite curry of yours.

Ingredients
  1. 1 cup of rice (Basmati /Sona Masoori)
  2. 3/4 tbsp of Jeera/Cumin Seeds
  3. 1/2 cup of chopped red onions
  4. 2 tsp of chopped green chillies
  5. 5 tbsp of chopped coriander leaves
  6. Salt to taste
  7. 2 tbsp of Ghee
Method
  • Cook rice as per the instructions on the packet.
  • In a wide pan, add the ghee. Once hot, add the cumin seeds and let it splutter or start giving crackling sounds. Add the chopped onion and chopped green chillies. Lower the heat to medium. Saute it just untill the onions turn tender.
  • Add the coriander leaves and stir it. Add the cooked rice and sprinkle salt as per your taste. Toss the rice gently to distribute the seasoning all over. Cover and cook for about a minutes. Turn off the heat.
  • Serve it hot with some curry on the side.
Tips
  1. Do not overmix the rice, else they tend to break up. Toss it just untill all the seasoning gets spread evenly.
